The John Saunders Centre regularly hosts concerts and musical events of all kinds, and for Valentine’s Day, building architect and co-founder Roger Robinson wanted to make his space as charming and romantic as possible. Through collaborating with accomplished jazz musician and musical director John MacMurchy, the team created the Valentine’s Jazz Party & Dance to bring couples and jazz lovers together.
The event was capped at 65 to preserve the intimate and romantic nature of it, and guests were welcomed with complimentary champagne, charcuterie, chocolates, cookies, and a cash bar. The room was impressively decorated with giant foam roses, a beautiful handcrafted heart centrepiece framing the stage, and fun installations like a photo booth and love note station.
MacMurchy and his jazz quintet opened the show, and then the music transitioned to the livelier dance portion featuring Shorty & the Giants, led by jazz singer Sheri Weldon.
