Members of Town Council, the Collingwood Climate Action Team and the general public gathered outside the Collingwood Library for the official unveiling of the 2025 Earth Day flag.
Each year, the Collingwood Climate Action Team runs a contest for local youth to submit designs for the Earth Day flag as a means of inspiring youth to get more involved with their own Earth friendly initiatives. This year, artist and activist Nyah Pinkerton won with her design highlighting the importance of everyday small steps that yield big results over time. Pinkerton is a dedicated environmentalist who has spearheaded initiatives like the Admiral Elementary School Green Team, and she is heavily inspired by other figures in her life who have run similar campaigns.
The Collingwood Climate Action Team is a volunteer organization dedicated to making Collingwood and surrounding areas greener for current and future generations. While the team believes that striving for a greener, more sustainable environment is a year-round mission, commemorating Earth Day with an event like the flag raising is just one more effort they can make to increasing awareness of their cause and visibility of their team.
In keeping with the Earth Day theme, the Climate Action Team is gearing up for Earth Fest, which will by held on April 27th at the Leisure Time Club. The event features live music, activities, food and drink, and plenty of information on how citizens can live more sustainably and take better care of their own environment.
