The DanceRoom has been in operation for over 20 years and studio owner Jen McKay is always looking for new ways to bring the community together. For International Women’s Day, she hosted a self-care event in collaboration with fellow dance teacher Kat Salvador, and together they taught classes, shared stories, and raised funds for the Cancer Centre at RVH as well as the MS Society.
Twenty women from the local and surrounding areas gathered for an afternoon of networking, community, and of course, dance. The event kicked off with mingling and Get-To-Know-You BINGO, then attendees participated in the silent auction and burlesque selfie booth for an other chance to mingle. After that, the group was split into two to participate in short hip hop, burlesque, and yoga classes, and finally the afternoon finished with food and storytelling from Jen and Kat that both provided support for and built perspective around living with health challenges. While the event was both active and social, attendees were also proud to be supporting women’s health and gaining strength through togetherness.
