In an effort to increase engagement with and participation in library programming, The Blue Mountains Public Library has launched another year of Books in the Park.
The initiative features mobile library stations at Heritage Park and Memorial Park on Fridays from June until Thanksgiving, giving people the opportunity to drop by and read, play games, participate in activities, and event obtain library cards. This is part of a larger strategy to bring the library to the greater community; a major need that was identified through strategic planning in 2021.
By encouraging reading and interaction with library resources outside in public parks, the library hopes to inspire more people of all ages to take up reading, learning, and discovery through play. At a time when literacy rates are dropping provincially and screen times is rising rapidly, Books in the Park reminds communities that libraries play a vital role in keeping people active and healthy both physically and mentally.
