Purple Hills Arts & Heritage Society aims to enrich Creemore and surrounding communities with quality arts, history, and cultural programming. One of their recurring initiatives is the Tea & History lecture series which focuses on different themes annually. This year, the series highlights the contributions to and impact of farming history on the region, and visitors gathered for an afternoon of education and celebration.
Five pioneering farming families gathered at Station on the Green to share photos, stories, and memories of their history. Each of the represented families have been farming since the mid 1800s, and to this day their family farms are fully operational and actively serving the local community and beyond. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with the farmers to ask questions and learn more about the families, all while admiring memorabilia collected over generations. The event also featured presentations from local historian Jim Algie and photographer Willy Waterton who both shared their knowledge of the area’s rich farming history.
Approximately 100 people attended the event. Purple Hills events are open to members and non-members, and more information is available at https://phahs.ca/
