The town of Hanover has been overdue for a new fire station and after years of planning and construction, the doors to their new facility have opened. The 15000 square foot station boasts a state-of-the-art training facility, lecture room and lounge, offices, gear storage and cleaning facilities, and most importantly, plenty of floor space for large rescue vehicles. This not only improves the department’s overall efficiency, it enhances the health and safety for all department members who now have dedicated space for themselves and all of their belongings.

Aside from the impressive upgrades to the organization and flow of the space, the building itself is attracting attention. The station is self-sustaining, with power being drawn from the array of solar panels lining the roof. The panels feed unused energy back into the town’s power grid, and should the station ever require additional power, it is able to pull what it needs from the grid as well. This makes the building cost effective and environmentally friendly, making this new fire station something over which the whole town is bursting with pride.
