Cycle for Hope

The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre has been a hallmark of Penetanguishene since 2011, and now the organization has officially launched in Collingwood as well. The Centre provides individuals living with cancer diagnoses ancillary supports like counselling, wig fittings, and financial aid, and when the Collingwood membership began to grow in Penetang, the need to expand became critical. Many of the people accessing the Centres are already travelling long distances for treatments, so opening the Collingwood location is one more support effort because it reduces additional travel for members living in the Collingwood area.
The Cycle for Hope features a variety of routes from a family friendly 3k to the flagship 145k ride. The first ride kicked off at 8am and the route ran all the way to Penetang and back as a symbol of the ties between the towns and their support centres. The fundraiser helps cover programming and operating costs, and the Centre was on track to raise approximately $50 000 in pledges from the 85 participants.
