The Stayner Curling Club was established in 1963 and it serves as a hub for curling enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. 175 curlers from Stayner, Wasaga Beach, New Lowell and surrounding areas participate in weekly meets, leagues, and various events throughout the season, and one of the club’s most popular offerings is its bonspiels.
The friendly competitions unite local club members and visitors from other communities; including out-of-province participants. Not only do they give competitors the opportunity to showcase their skills, they provide important social activities for the community as well.
The bonspiels often vary in scope and structure, but Crash of the Titans remains one of the club’s favourites because so many participants get to either meet new players for the first time, or reunite with old friends all in an effort to raise necessary funds for club development and upgrades.
This year’s Crash of the Titans featured eight teams, including one from Nova Scotia. The Bonspiel Committee assigned a Greek theme to the event, which added at extra layer of fun and entertainment to the day’s activities. Aside from the games, participants gathered for a morning Greek lesson and mimosas, a leisurely lunch, and the chance to bid on a number of raffle prizes.
