50 Years of Winterama
1m 51s
The Sunnidale Winterama has brought residents of New Lowell and surrounding communities together for 50 years to reconnect with old friends and celebrate winter in Clearview township. This year, its 50th anniversary included a variety of children’s programming, the beloved Snowmageddon snowmobile show, activities and demonstrations over the course of the weekend, and dignitaries from both municipal and provincial levels of government who showed their support for the annual event.
With New Lowell being largely a bedroom community, Winterama volunteers and visitors cited how important the event is to fostering community and giving people the opportunity to reunite and celebrate their town together. The event is organized by Clearview township and a litany of volunteers who all work tirelessly to ensure each year is more successful than the year before.
Winterama’s programming evolves every year, but the event staples include the parade, the Burning of the Green, Snowmageddon, and the community meals hosted by the Legion. The main events occur at the New Lowell Recreation Park, and it runs annually over the first weekend of February.
