In 2008, ”Play Me, I’m Yours” began as a commissioned installation for Artist Luke Jerram in Birmingham, England. The inspiration came from him sitting, waiting for the bus noticing that no one was speaking to each other. 15 painted pianos were placed across the city for three weeks. The hope was that the installation of pianos could bring people together through the power of music and conversations. Approximately 140,00 people played those pianos or listened to music being played on those pianos. Since then Jerram and his team have installed more than 2,000 street pianos, decorated by local artist in 70 cities worldwide from Tokyo to New York. Collingwood’s street pianos are also currently onsite throughout the historic downtown for all to enjoy until the beginning of September.
