The Thornbury/Beaver Valley Lions Club invites members of environmental action teams and conservation groups along with the general public to partake in the annual Watershed Festival. The event, featuring speakers, live music, community barbecues and a film screening, is run to raise awareness about current issues affecting the waters of Georgian Bay while also inspiring the next generation to take a vested interest in conservancy and stewardship.
This year, the event kicked off with a delegate meeting featuring a number of community organizations like the Watershed Trust, Georgian Bay Forever, and Grey-Sauble Conservation Authority to name a few. The meeting fostered critical discussions around current issues, preservation efforts, and hope for a brighter future for Georgian Bay.
From there, participants were invited to a barbecue before the screening of All Too Clear; a film by Georgian Bay Forever shedding light on an invasive mussel species impacting the watershed. The screening is open to the public, and community members from all around the area are encouraged to attend not only the film, but the public programming taking place on Saturday, July 12th. The morning begins with a traditional Lions Club pancake breakfast before breaking out into more talks, live music, and a closing barbecue to round out the day.
